Reflections on My Mentorship During the Venture Cafe Real Founders Summer Series

I was honored to be featured as a mentor for Venture Café Phoenix’s 200th Gathering, where I hosted one-on-one Mentor Hours for founders seeking guidance on branding, paid media, and systems automation.
This opportunity represented more than a speaking or networking moment for me. It reflected the reason I built Luvion Media Group: to give growing businesses access to the kind of thoughtful strategy, connected technology, and data-informed decision-making that are often reserved for larger organizations.
Too many founders are working harder than their systems are working for them. They may have a strong offer, an active social media presence, paid advertisements, a website, and a customer relationship management platform, but none of those pieces are communicating with one another. The result is often more manual work, inconsistent follow-up, unclear performance data, and missed opportunities.
Branding, Advertising, and Automation Should Work Together
A brand is not simply a logo, color palette, or polished website. It is the promise a business makes, the experience it creates, and the reason the right audience chooses to trust it.
Paid media helps that brand reach people beyond its existing network. However, advertising cannot solve unclear positioning, a weak offer, or an incomplete customer journey. More traffic does not automatically create more revenue; especially when leads are not captured, organized, and followed up with effectively.
That is where business systems and automation become essential.
When the right systems are connected, a potential customer can move smoothly from an advertisement to a landing page, into a CRM, through a follow-up sequence, and toward a scheduled consultation or purchase. At the same time, the business owner gains clearer data about which campaigns are producing results and where opportunities are being lost.
The goal is not to automate every interaction or remove the human element from business.
The goal is to reduce repetitive work so founders have more time for leadership, creativity, relationships, and growth.
The Questions Founders Should Be Asking
Before investing in another advertisement, subscription, or piece of software, founders should step back and ask:
Is our brand message clear enough for the right customer to understand our value quickly?
Do our advertising campaigns support a specific business objective?
What happens immediately after someone submits a form, calls, or expresses interest?
Are leads being tracked and followed up with consistently?
Can we identify which marketing activities are producing qualified opportunities and revenue?
Which repetitive tasks could be automated without weakening the customer experience?
These questions help shift the conversation from isolated marketing tactics to a complete growth strategy.
Why Accessible Mentorship Matters
Founders are frequently expected to make high-impact decisions with limited time, limited teams, and incomplete information. Many are building their companies while managing families, full-time careers, community responsibilities, and the everyday realities of entrepreneurship.
I understand that experience personally. As a founder, a Black woman, and a mother of six, I know that ambition does not remove the need for efficiency. It makes efficiency even more important.
My professional experience has allowed me to contribute to work connected to nationally recognized brands, including Google, Honda, Abbott, Vertex, Fluke, and America First Credit Union. Through Luvion Media, I bring that strategic perspective to small businesses, nonprofits, and emerging founders who deserve access to the same caliber of thinking, without being pressured into systems or services that do not fit their stage of growth.
Mentorship creates room for founders to pause, ask focused questions, challenge assumptions, and leave with a clearer next step. Even a short conversation can help someone avoid an unnecessary expense, identify a gap in their customer journey, or see how disconnected tools can become a more intelligent system.
Building With Greater Intention
Participating in Venture Café Phoenix’s 200th Gathering was a meaningful opportunity to contribute to an ecosystem that connects founders, innovators, mentors, and community leaders across the Valley.
My hope is that every founder I support walks away understanding one important principle: your business should not depend on constant manual effort to keep moving forward.
Your brand should communicate clearly. Your advertising should have a measurable purpose. Your platforms should support the way you work. Your data should help you make better decisions. And your systems should create capacity not more confusion.
That is what it means to build with intention.
